How to Pass the Seated Guard in BJJ

In this instructional video, we will be focusing on one of the most common and fundamental techniques in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) – how to pass the seated guard. The seated guard is a defensive position used by your opponent to control the distance and prevent you from advancing. By learning effective passing techniques, you can neutralize your opponent’s guard and gain a dominant position.

To begin, it is important to establish a strong base and maintain good posture. This will provide you with a solid foundation and prevent your opponent from easily sweeping or submitting you. By keeping your back straight, head up, and weight evenly distributed, you can effectively counter your opponent’s attacks.

Once you have established a strong base, the next step is to control your opponent’s legs. This can be achieved by either gripping their ankles or controlling their knees. By doing so, you limit their mobility and make it more difficult for them to maintain the seated guard.

Now, the passing technique we will be focusing on is called the knee slide pass. To execute this pass, you will need to step your knee over your opponent’s leg while simultaneously using your other hand to control their opposite knee. This will create a diagonal pressure that makes it challenging for your opponent to retain their guard.

As you slide your knee across, it is important to maintain constant pressure and control. This will prevent your opponent from recovering their guard and allow you to continue your progression towards a dominant position. Additionally, it is crucial to keep your weight distributed evenly to prevent your opponent from sweeping you.

Throughout the video, we will provide detailed explanations and demonstrations of each step, ensuring that you fully understand the mechanics and subtleties of the technique. We will also address common mistakes and offer tips for troubleshooting any difficulties you may encounter.

By practicing and mastering the knee slide pass, you will have a powerful tool in your arsenal to overcome the seated guard and advance your position in BJJ. This technique is applicable for practitioners of all levels, from beginners to advanced, and can be adapted to various situations and body types.

So, whether you are looking to improve your passing game or simply expand your knowledge of BJJ, this video is a must-watch. Join us as we break down the intricacies of the knee slide pass and help you elevate your BJJ game to new heights.
